In a small house located on El Codo Street, near the current Berrio Park in Medellin, the newspaper El Espectador was born. Founded by the educator and journalist Fidel Cano Gutiérrez, the first edition appeared on March 22, 1887, with the announcement that from then on it would circulate on Tuesdays and Fridays. In its first editorial note, the newspaper was presented as a defender of the liberal doctrine and opponent of the Regeneration movement led by President Rafael Núñez, and which supported its philosophy for the management of public affairs in the constitution of 1886.
